The death penalty has been around for several around for several years but consists of flaws. The death penalty is costly, it does not deter crime, it has not ended wrongful executions, it goes against almost every religion, abuses human rights, has been persuaded by the types of jury, and can be affected by terrible lawyers. The first death penalty in the United States occurred in the early 1600’s. The colonies used public hangings as a deterrent for children and adults. A public sermon would be given at these public displays. The sermon was for the presumed guilty to find God before dying in hopes they receive absolution. During the Medieval times, Europeans burned people at the stake for practicing witchcraft. Death penalty does not deter crime. Rehabilitation and corporal punishment exist to protect society from criminals. It is believed that many criminals do not anticipate the penalty of their actions at the time they are committing the crime. Laws do not and cannot deter the mentally ill or the mentally underdeveloped from committing crimes because they do not comprehend the nature of the crime or foresee the consequences. Most crimes are committed in the heat of passion. Most people would not commit these crimes in their â€Å"normal† state of mind; they have to be provoked, excited, etc. Police and other law enforcement agents will continue to question a suspect if they state they understand their right to remain silent even if he or she has a mental health history. Police interrogations are created to mislead suspects and to get a confession. This pressure sometimes pressures â€Å"normal† people to confess or become confused about the details. Officers infer that they want to help the suspect, exaggerate about t he evidence against them, and emphasize the consequences if they confessed compared to continue to deny that they are guilty. Unless suspects refused to talk without a lawyer being present they are in danger of false confessing. My Career Experience At A College Student - 898 Words

As a college student, I felt pressured to make a choice on what career path I wanted to pursue, but I did not know exactly what I wanted to do. I changed major a couple of times before finally changing to Early Childhood Education, and I am glad I did. Although I was fairly sure I had reached the right decision by partaking in my education class, I was reassured during volunteering for my field experience hours. After proceeding through my field experience hours I have become a better teacher candidate because of the gains accrued about effective teaching characteristics, teaching methods, and the connections formulated from class material to my field practicum experience. Notably, during my field practicum experience, I learned what teacher characteristics are the most effective. For example, some of the most effective characteristics are establishing relationships with each student, be patient when students do not understand, ask questions and let the students do the same, and give multiple examples. It took me ten minutes to locate a blue bus. Behind the vehicle, half-covered by the low-hanging branches of a very old tree, sat an Edsel. Or at least that was what the nameplate said. I’d never seen one before. There was a bite to the night, a chill in the air. I could have sworn a ghostly howl rose toward the stars, but when I turned my face upwind, I smelled nothing but motor oil. Edward was nowhere to be found. Unease trickled over me. The darkness pressed down; a sudden silence seemed to pulse with secrets and questions. My shoulders twitched as if I had a neon bull’s-eye painted on my back. walked around the Edsel. Clouds danced past the moon, spreading a ghostly, flickering light. Shadows danced among the dead vehicles. Something slunk low in the tall grass at the edge of the clearing. The breeze whispered, caressing my skin, making me shiver. Something was here. I turned in a slow circle and my fingers brushed fur. Glancing at my hand, I scowled. I could still feel the tactile impression, but I saw nothing. A body thumped into the back of my legs, sending me forward. I tripped over an invisible barrier and slammed into the ground. Flipping onto my back, I tensed in expectation of an attack. None came. More edgy than I’d ever been, I got to my feet. The hair on my arms and at the back of my neck vibrated with awareness. I heard them growling, pacing, hunting, but all I saw were wisps and shadows. Nothing concrete. If I hadn’t smelled wolves, heard them, too, I wouldn’t have been able to distinguish just what it was that wavered here and there like ghosts. A slight movement and I spun just as a shimmering shade blew through me. I was cold, then hot. I heard the whisper of a voice I couldn’t understand, caught a glimpse of†¦ something I couldn’t quite place. As I turned slowly with a stiff-legged gait, wavering entities surrounded me. I darted at one, but it danced out of my way. Another levitated, then flew off into the trees. A third let me catch it, but when I encountered the strange cold spot, the whisper, I yelped and backpedaled with all my might. â€Å"Who’s out there?† I froze at the strange voice and ducked behind a rusted pickup truck. A graying, grizzled old man wandered through the wrecks. The night watchman or maybe the owner, he carried a rifle; however, that wasn’t what made the ruff on the back of my neck lift. A low rumble spread across the night. A distinct io warning, which the man didn’t appear to hear, even when the growl increased in volume and was joined by several others. Shadows flickered, circled, converged. Torn, I perched near the left truck tire, hoping whatever stalked the junkyard would go away. A pained whine erupted from my mouth, and the man’s gaze swung in my direction. Me, he could hear. I ducked low and hid behind the bumper. The shadows inched closer; the growls escalated to snarls. I had no choice. Though the ghostly wolves might not be able to hurt me, they might hurt him. I couldn’t let an innocent civilian be bitten or killed by Lord knows what. Bursting from cover, I ran straight at the first shadow in my path. I braced for the disturbing cold spot; nevertheless when I thundered through it I lost my footing, then tumbled across the grass, snarling, snapping at half a dozen other cold spots. I reached my feet, spun about, saw nothing and felt even less. Were they gone? Panting, I paced. Too much power, too much adrenaline. I had to fight something. Kill it and now. I caught a faint scent and followed it to the trees. Diving in, I sensed them all around me. My lip curled. I showed them my teeth. Come on! I wanted to shout. I can take you. I can take all of you. The foliage shivered. The odd smell faded. They had run because they were afraid, and I loved it. Tingling, I shook my fur as if I’d just stepped out of an icy river. Unable to contain myself, I tilted my nose to the moon and howled. As the sound of my exultation faded, the wind whispered, and this time I understood the words. Give in to the power. After, you held my hands extremely hard as my body moved in shudders like the ferry when its axle is loosed past engagement, you kept me sealed exactly against you, our hairlines wet as the arc of a gateway after a cloudburst, you secured me in your arms till I slept– that was love, and we woke in the morning clasped, fragrant, buoyant, that was the morning after love. Claim: The poem is about a person who fell in love. They were surprised by this, because it was a whirlwind romance and unexpected. The author is surprised by the love and also a little afraid by it. The writer uses metaphors and analysis to set out the scene. There is a sexual theme throughout the poem. After sex they embraced and held each other, then when the subject wakes up they feel the joy of it. I see it as love described in all its brutality and the moment is described as being completely lost in a moment. Maybe it’s a one night stand, or maybe it’s all about falling in love for the first time. It may not necessarily be the first time that they had sex, but it’s definitely the first time that they were in love. I also think it is interesting that we do not know the gender of the subject in the poem. The author is a female so maybe it is a tale of real life, or equally it could be a fantasy poem from the point of view of either sex. Some of the terminology implies to me that the subject is submissive sexually, which possibly would usually indicate a female. Evidence: The first sentence â€Å"I’m afraid†, I think the author is afraid of love/sex. †Love? It was more like dragonflies† This is a strange, whimsical experience that leaves her wondering about its affects. †in the sun, 100 degrees at noon† Dragonflies live by using the sun to heat their bodies nd I think it might implies the author needs the warmth to keep her alive. It also could imply the physical heat and passion of the intercourse. â€Å"the ends of their abdomens stuck together â€Å" dragonflies have abdomens, these are used when they have sexual intercourse. We can infer from this that the human subjects in the poem used their sexual organs while having intercourse. â€Å"close my eyes when I remember. I hardly  knew myself, like something twisting and twisting out of a chrysalis† A chrysalis is the stage before a butterfly’s full maturity (with dragonfly’s this is call the nymph state, their life cycle is different) his moment is baffling, mysterious and pleasurable. Its a moment that she will remember as she closes her eyes, seeing those flashbacks of love-making. â€Å"enormous, without language, all  head, all shut eyes, and the humming like madness, the way they writhe away† All metaphorical, the moments in which one writhes during sex, is similar to the moment a butterfly emerges as it makes its way out of the chrysalis. It is lost, writhing and wriggling for birth. Only at that moment it breaks free, will it realize this new born infancy. They are close together, even after both of them have climaxed, even after this pulsing moment has passed they hold and stay together, clasped with tight hands and bodies intertwined. So much so, that she fell asleep with their bodies pressed against each other. â€Å"that was love, and we woke in the morning† That was her realization, that all of this craziness was actually the moment they felt love. â€Å"clasped, fragrant, buoyant, that w as† o much so was their love intertwined, that they awoke together, in the same position, smelling of sex/love and full of optimism (buoyant). â€Å"the morning after love. † This is her final synopsis, the morning after all this crazy rough sex, after the love was found. Conclusion: This poem is basically about sex, we can tell from the words and metaphors the author chose and the way she describes it. What I’m trying to get is the relationship between the subjects, as the author mentioned love and contradicts this by mentioning â€Å"no kiss, no tenderness†. My guessing is that this might be either a one night stand or just a story of two people who found love surprisingly through having sex. Of course there might be the possibility that the author just loves sex so much that she describes it in an artistic way. However, there are lots of details of emotion, the moment between a one night stand and a passionate night of making love are rather similar. Nevertheless, I dont feel that a night of pleasure is filled with what came afterwards. One of the possibilities is this can be a crazy one night stand where love was found instantly. Or it is (more realistically) the moment in which a person has found love in their partner, has gone through this pulsating moment of richness and wonder, to come out of the other side, confused and bewildered, yet extremely satisfied at what they have experienced, and finally know what it means to love. I found this poem to be interesting and insightful, overall it was very thought provoking. When I initially read it, I did not at first see some of the key themes behind it. The more I analyzed each line and detail, the more I could appreciate the subtle details of the authors writing style.

The True Authorship Of The Works Attributed To William Shakespeare In 1564, a man was born by the name of William Shakespeare. He was born to a poor family, was given little education, and had no interaction with sophisticated society. Thirty-eight plays and over 150 sonnets are not attributed to this ignorant man. Those who believe that Shakespeare was the author have no definitive proof but instead point to Hamlets declaration: The plays the thing(Satchell 71). The true author, however, lies hidden behind he name of Shakespeare. Edward de Vere the premier Earl of Oxford is not only considered a great poet in history, but he may also be the great playwright who concocted the sonnets and plays which are now attributed to William Shakespeare of Stratford, England. Edward de Vere was the Lord Great Chamberlain and the seventeenth Earl of Oxford. He was raised as a Royal Ward and from a very young age was educated in the sports and arts of nobility. Although disgraceful for a nobleman to waste time writing frivolous plays, Oxford as a young man wrote and staged the entertainment for the court. As an adult, he became engrossed in theatrical performances and frittered away his fortunes in support of several writers and actors (Friedman 13). During this time, De Vere also began writing several poems and plays. Much like Samuel Clemens, who wrote under the name of Mark Twain, Oxford adopted the pseudonym Shakespeare. Soon after plays appeared under the name of Shakespeare, poems by de Vere ceased (Russell 5). Coincidently, the coat of arms of Lord Bulbeck, a third title of Edward de Vere, is a lion shaking a spear (Ogburn 10). De Vere was also known by the people as the spear-shaker because of excellence at the tilts and at jousting (Russell 5). Many believe this pen name was for protection. Many of the plays said to have been written by Shakespeare explicitly describe the corruption in court politics and contain thinly veiled satires and parodies of politicians and courtiers. In addition, public theatres such as the Globe were laced with prostitutes, drunkards and criminals and because of the scoundrel audiences, playwrights were held in low esteem. Moreover, many scholars believe de Veres reasons for his pseudonym may be linked to the homoerotic threads in many of the Shakespearean sonnets and de Veres possible homosexual affair with his son-in-law. Using his identity would have been a dangerous game when such affairs were a high crime (Satchell 71). There are many allusions in Shakespeares plays which de Vere would have been particularly familiar with. As a child, de Vere was tutored by Arthur Golding, the translator of Metamorphoses. This literary work was alluded to several times in Shakespearean plays. De Vere also studied law and traveled across the continent, spending a great deal of time in Italy (Tweedale 12). Many references to Italian art and architecture are also alluded to in Shakespeares plays. William Shakespeare of Stratford, however, never left England (Friedman 10). The author of the Shakespearean plays had to possess a rare knowledge in several disciplines including physical sciences, medicine, he law, astronomy, and the Bible. Shakes of Stratford received no formal education with the exception of grammar school through the equivalent of third grade. De Vere, however, was taught by only the best tutors (Satchell 71). The Shakespearean plays were also written by one who has had interaction with the aristocracy and understood the workings of royalty from the inside out (Friedman 10). Although there is no evidence that Shakespeare moved freely about this society, de Vere was regarded as a brilliant ornament of Elizabeths court (Sachmartino 13) and as such would have understood what it as like to live in the aristocracy. De Veres very life is in many ways represented in the plays attributed to Shakespeare of Stratford. For example, in the play Hamlet, de Vere describes many of the details of his life. Like the main character Hamlet, de Vere is virtually a prince and also of Danish decent. Chronicle of a Death Fortold makes us look at life and death and face uncertainty about our future. Because it questions death and our belief in religion, it depreciates, in a sense, our strong belief in the glories of afterlife. Like the narrator, maybe we, "couldnt bring ouselves to admit that life might end up resembling bad literature so much"(102). It makes us think that we should be content now, and not later, and that the intermingling of life and death is not purely coincidental, but perhaps one is no greater than the other.
